At least four people were killed after a shooting in Fredericton, the capital of the Canadian province of New Brunswick, the police said on Friday morning.
The shooting took place on Brookside Drive, a major thoroughfare in the city. The Fredericton Police Force said that it was responding just before 8 a.m. local time. The police referred to it as “an ongoing incident” and advised people to stay inside with doors locked. Officers have closed off a four-mile stretch of the road.
A woman who answered the phone at a Tim Hortons on Brookside Drive said that people in the restaurant had taken cover and been told not to go outside.
Fredericton is a university town with about 60,000 residents, northeast of Maine.
